New to Second Life? Start with L$750
If you have just joined, there is free store credit waiting for you at Luova, and a short guide below to help you find your feet.
Free store credit for new residents. If your Second Life account is under 90 days old, it is yours to claim at the terminal in the Luova mainstore. No purchase needed, and nothing to sign up for.
One claim per account. Store credit is spent on your own purchases of full-priced Luova items. From 1 January 2027, store credit expires six months after it is issued.
Getting started
Make your account, and pick a viewer
Second Life is free to join. Once you have signed up you need a viewer, which is the program you actually explore in. There is the official one, and there is Firestorm, a third-party viewer preferred by most residents for its extra features and polish. Either works, and you can change your mind later.
Find your feet
Give yourself a little while just moving around. Walking, flying, working the camera and using chat all take a few minutes to get used to, and everything afterwards is easier once they feel natural. Nobody expects a new arrival to know any of it, and asking is normal.
Make your avatar your own
Your avatar is entirely yours - shape, skin, hair, clothing, and body mesh. Popular mesh bodies include Maitreya, Legacy and eBody, and most Luova items are made for these. But you are not limited to the human form either. Be whatever you like.
Explore, discover and have fun
Second Life is a vast world entirely built by its residents. Hunt for freebies from hundreds of creators, earn or purchase Linden Dollars to shop, own land or a cosy home, visit clubs and live music venues, dive into rich roleplay communities, build and script your own creations, photograph your avatar and the stunning world around you. There is always something new, and always somewhere to belong.
Come to Luova and claim your L$750
Visit the mainstore and touch the credit terminal. If your account is under 90 days old the L$750 is added there and then, and you can spend it on anything full-priced in the store.
